La Fattoria

/LaFattoria/Fattoria_Zoom.JPG

An imposing, large, old stone house with about 220m² floor space set in a large piece of land with mature plants and trees. This is one of our nicest properties, atmospheric and wonderfully furnished with traditional items, and an eye for detail. In the ground floor are the living spaces with the large, traditional kitchen, ideal for amateur chefs, a dining room that could comfortable sit 12 people, a cozy living room with easy chairs and sofa around the open fire, and a separate billiards area. Up an old staircase on the first floor are 4 bedrooms, 3 doubles and a triple with three single beds. Two have en-suite bathrooms, the other two share a bathroom. There is another lounge with soft furniture and satellite TV. From here there is access to the large terrace. Dishwasher and washing machine are included. Outside is furniture in the shade of a tree and a little further the swimming pool (8m diameter). There is also a gym available with excercise equipment, and a jacuzzi for 3-4 people, which combines air and water jets to give an envigorating massage.

From La Fattoria it is 25km to the coast and 40km to the hot springs of Saturnia.

The owner, Francesco, is one of the pleasantest people and hosts one could wish to meet. He has a vegetable garden from which guests are welcome to help themselves, or buy some of his home made Prosecco, or top quality olive oil, homemade of course. And, if invited, he will happily also join in a game of billiards or just explain the rules.

Arcille Arcille is a small village about 15 km from Grosseto. There are shops, a post office, bar and good trattoria offering a traditional menu.

Maremma The Maremma takes in the greater part of the province of Grosseto, an undulating landscape between the coast and the mountains where water, thick Mediterranean vegetation and wildlife still dominate. In the north are the Metallifere hills with the medieval towns of Massa Marittima, Gavorrano, Scarlino and Montieri, and to the west Roccastrada, Paganico, and Campagnatico are the heart of the Maremma. An ideal place for nature lovers, horse riding, and other outdoor pursuits, as well as for those who wish to experience a more traditional Italian lifestyle and food. Grosseto is both the geographical and administrative centre of Maremma. Founded over 1000 years ago as a medical camp for travelers on the Via Aurelia. The old town is surrounded by a wall, raised by the Medici’s in the 16th Century. A large market takes place here every Thursday. There is also a pleasant pedestrian precinct with a large variety of shops, bars and numerous good restaurants. The biggest tourist attraction is the famous Museo degli Etruschi, (Etruscan Museum).
